Patch Family Research

Here are some articles pertaining to our family research on the Patch line in Somerset.  These are Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) files.  If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download it here.

The search for our great grandfather, Sidney Henri Belmont, Sr., and his family took almost 50 years.  After he came to the United States, Sid changed his first given name, his surname, his father's given name and surname, his mother's maiden name, his nationality, his birthdate, the number of siblings he had, and their names.  The only things he didn't change were his middle name (though he changed the spelling from "Henry" to "Henri"), his mother's name (her name was "Ann" but he called her "Annie"), and one sister's given name (Ethel).  He went to great lengths to disassociate himself from his family in England.  We have no idea why.

Following are two articles that describe the search for Sid's family and how we were able to prove (without a doubt) his original identity.

Great Grandpa's Notebook, a condensed version of our search for Sidney Henri Belmont, Sr., aka John Henry Patch.

In Search of Deeply Buried Roots, a fully-developed version of the search for Sidney Henri Belmont, Sr., born John Henry Patch.
